Highly Skilled Migrant Residence Permit
Knowledge migrants are highly educated foreigners who come to the Netherlands to contribute to the knowledge economy.
To be eligible for this residence permit scheme, the skilled migrant has to earn a gross annual income of at least € 50.619 or € 37.121 if they are younger than 30 years. [2011]

The Netherlands European Blue Card Residence Permit
The Netherlands European Union Blue Card residence permit is a distinct purpose of stay which is similar to the existing National Highly Skilled Migrant residence permit.
The EU Blue Card is intended for highly skilled foreign nationals who do not have EU, EEA or Swiss nationality.
The conditions for residence in the Netherlands as an EU Blue Card holder are more stringent than the conditions for residence as a Highly Skilled Migrant.

Highly Skilled Migrant Residence Permit

Exception to the income requirements:
- The income criterion does not apply to PhD students working at an educational or research institution and medical doctors training for specialisation.
- Students from outside the European Union, who graduate from a Dutch institution of higher education for example a Dutch ‘HBO’ or ‘universiteit’, have a period of one year to find a job as a skilled migrant. Their gross annual income must be at least € 26.605 a year. [2011]
